Why should I use UpStream when I’ve already got email filtering included from my email provider, like Office 365 or Google Workspace?
This is a genuinely good question that both we and many of our email filtering peers receive.
Email Filtering services like Barracuda, MimeCast, Proofpoint and UpStream have been around for so long not only because we’ve not only pioneered technologies to protect organizations from all kinds of the newest and more persistent threats, but because we’ve done it extremely well for decades. While the new kids on the block like Microsoft and Google have used their scale to try and catch up, they don’t have the focus nor specialization in the field to match what we do, hence why we continue to thrive, even with organizations that are using O365 or Workspace but want more.
To add onto that: many of the good features and capabilities that Microsoft and Google roll out to mitigate advanced or persistent threats, such as Dynamic Link Scanning, are reserved for clients who either have the top end of licensing or purchase those functionalities as an add-on for their current tier of licensing, both of which are horrendously expensive, especially for larger organizations.
To that end, instead of paying through the nose for E5 licensing in Office 365 to get access to Advanced Threat Protection, many clients instead utilize UpStream instead for the same functionality but at a fraction of the price. This also provides the smart play of Defense-in-Depth, which is adding overlapping security layers to ensure that even if one mechanism fails to provide protection, others exist to stop an attack from succeeding. This allows UpStream and O365/Workspace to cooperate and compliment each other, rather than being outright replacements of one or the other.
On top of that, factor for the ease of use of UpStream versus Office 365 and Google, especially with Managed Services. We’re heard the same tale so many times: using the administrative interfaces of Office 365 or Google Workspace are just so darned frustrating and time consuming compared to what third party providers that specialize in the field offer. UpStream’s interface is clear, concise and frankly, just takes a lot less clicks to get the same thing done than O365 or Workspace. Now combine that with UpStream’s Managed Services, wherein you just tell us what you want, and we do it for you (and at no additional cost), leaving you to focus on your real work.
Really; on top of the technology, our value add is our service: someone with expertise you can reach over the phone or email right away and accomplish what you need without a headache. If you’ve tried with this Microsoft or Google, you already know the result and perhaps that’s why you’re here right now. Want to see it in action? Try our contact form and ask a question.
